Getting to know cPanel

One of the most useful features of our web hosting packages is cPanel control panel. Surprisingly, this is often the most overlooked feature as well. Lets take a few minutes to go over some of the control panels features. Once you see all that this this easy to use control panel has to offer, I think that you will agree that this is one of the most important features a web site administrator can utilize.

To log into cPanel is easy. Simply use the following format: www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Be sure to replace the "yourdomain" with your actual website name. A pop up box will appear and you will need to enter your account user name and password. If you are unsure of this please review the message that we sent you when your account was first opened. If you are still not sure feel free to open a support ticket.

The first thing you will notice when logging into the Total Hosting cPanel interface is the look and feel is similar to that of Microsoft Windows.

If this is your first time using the control panel it is a good idea to use the "Getting Started Wizard". A pop up box will appear asking you if you would like to use this feature.  If you answer no, don't worry, you can run it again at anytime via the link in the control panel.

The wizard will step you through an overview of your account, how to create web disks to
drag and drop files from your desktop directly into your hosting account, setting up e-mail accounts, using web mail, and keeping your contact information current.

Once completed you can add, delete, or modify e-mail accounts at anytime from the "E-mail Manager" section of your control panel.

Within the "Site Management" section you can review the amount of disk space used, the amount of data transfer used, backup your site, create, modify and delete databases, and even directly add, remove or edit files within your website.

The "Domains" section allows you to manage which domain names are associated with your web hosting account.

One of the most useful sections of the cPanel interface is the "Software/Services" section. Here you will find a few scripts that can be auto installed. Most importantly though this section contains the link to Fantastico. Fantastico can install over 70 scripts and services to your site and help keep them up to date as well. If you haven't heard of Fantastico then you will want to read "What can you do with Total Hosting?"

The "Statistics" section provides valuable information on who is visting your website and more importantly how they are finding you. Ever wonder what keyword someone used in Google to find your website. Well, the statistics section has your answers.

The "Advanced" section can scan files for viruses, manage your index and error pages, manage encryption keys and provide a form to reach technical support in case of a problem.

Thinking of getting a dedicated cPanel server? Take a look at what we have to offer.

Have fun!
